29th Annual Payette Lakes Ski Marathon
On Saturday, February 19th, 2011 McCall, Idaho will again be the host for one of the oldest nordic ski marathons in the northwestern United States: The Payette Lakes Ski Marathon. This is the second year on a new point to point, 33 kilometer course, beginning at the Little Ski Hill west of McCall, and finishing at Blackhawk On the River, southwest of McCall. At 9:00 am the classic (striding) event will start and at 10:00 am the freestyle (skating) event will start. There is also a 10 kilometer freestyle option, which will begin at10:00 am and will also finish at Blackhawk on the River. New this season is a 2 kilometer children's race (race time and course to be announced). The marathon course follows the beautiful Payette River, climbing onto Red Ridge on an old railroad grade, and finishing at the new Blackhawk on the River Club House. Beer, food, and fun await all finishers.
Pre-registration Friday will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Gravity Sports (a local ski shop), which is located 1 block east of main street at 503 Pine Street. Day of race registration will be at the Blackhawk club house, starting at 7:00am. Divisions will be in 10 year increments in the 10 km freestyle and 33 km classic race. Younger age groups for the 33K freestyle race will also be in 10 year increments, with older age groups (30 and up) in five year increments. The kid's race will be in two year increments.
Racers will be shuttled to the race starts (10K and 33K distances have different start locations) from Blackhawk. The Little Ski Hill will provide bus transportation.
All entrants (except those entering the kids race) will receive duffle bags, and awards will be given to top finishers of all age groups as well as overall winners. Hats will be available for purchase by everyone and proceeds will go to the Bear Basin Grooming Fund.
